The North Mac Community Unit School District is pleased to offer the Parents as Teachers Program - a FREE, voluntary year-round early parenting program that provides comprehensive services to families from the third trimester of pregnancy until the children are three years of age.
The Parents as Teachers Program is designed to help parents develop the skills they need to maximize the learning potential of young children. Parents learn about child development including how to encourage language development, intellectual growth, and social and motor skills. The program also aims to improve the parent-child relationship.
Through the school district, the Parents as Teachers Program provides home visits by certified parent educators, group meetings where parents can receive support from other parents as well as gain knowledge of developmental issues, screening of children for developmental delays and referrals to community services.
Nestled near the High School and Middle School complex, the elementary community has a strong sense of school spirit and hometown pride. The elementary school was built in 1980 and is a wonderful place to learn. Just a short walk from the Middle School/High School, the children are often invited to attend activities and programs put on by their older peers. The collaboration doesn't end there - our team of teachers and staff focus on teaching the whole child to be an intelligent student and future citizen. The collaboration and support from everyone is genuine and positive. Virden Elementary is truly a wonderful place to learn and grow.
The Virden Elementary School includes departmentalized 4th and 5th grades, Title Program, a state-of-the-art computer lab, computers in each classroom, a spacious library and extensive student support services. The school's location allows easy access to local parks. The location is convenient to work with the community, local businesses, and many civic organizations to increase learning opportunities.
