The City of Virden, Illinois is located 25 miles South of the State Capitol of Springfield and is home to nearly 3500 residents of both Sangamon and Macoupin County.

Virden was first settled in 1829 and surveyed in 1852. It officially became a town on June 21, 1852.

The Virden Area Association of Commerce will host a city wide garage sale on Friday, June 15th from 6-8 PM and continue on Saturday, June 16th from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. This is the same weekend as the Route 66 car show on the square in Virden. Deadline to be included on the Garage Sale map will be Wednesday, May 30.
The VAAC is picking up the cost for running your ad. You need only to complete a registration form (available at local VAAC merchants or click link to left) and return it with your name, location, and a short description of the items you wish to sell. All of that will be included on 11X 17 flyers mapping your sale’s location. Each participant receives free flyers to distribute at their sale, directing customers to the next location. The more participants, the better, so make plans now to be a part of this annual VAAC event. But don’t wait—in order to get the flyers printed in time, DEADLINE for SIGN UP is MAY 30!
For questions regarding the sale, please call Debbie at 965-5496. No registrations or ads will be accepted by phone, they must be submitted in written form, or by submitting form from link at left. Find a registration form on the city website or at select VAAC members around the square, and return it soon to mark your spot on the map! Don’t forget to indicate if you will be hosting your sale on Friday and Saturday, or on Friday only.

The event will benefit the food pantries in Virden and Girard. The event is being organized and put on by a group of Macoupin County youth. I hope you can come out and support a wonderful cause and show the youth what happens when individuals and communities come together for a common purpose. If you cannot attend the event, I hope you will forward this information or distribute as you see fit.
